Here’s our series. The 5 best reasons to watch a match (with some minor adjustments). We’ll be highlighting the most appealing aspects before each match with a mix of seriousness and humor. Please note, this isn’t meant to be an exhaustive overview. We continue here with the match between Paris Saint-Germain (5th) and Monaco (10th) this Wednesday at the Parc des Princes for Matchday 5 of the 2025-2026 Champions League (kick-off 9 pm, CET).
5 – Rematch of the UEFA Super Cup.
It’s not the most important title of the season, but it’s still significant, and Tottenham came close to winning the UEFA Super Cup in August. However, PSG found the strength at the end of the match to come back from two goals down and ultimately win on penalties.
The English might have him in mind for a rematch, while Paris must remember the difficulties they faced against an athletic team that was also adept at transitioning. Even if the context was unusual, with almost no preparation on the Parisian side.
4 – Bitter Reunions
Randal Kolo Muani (26-year-old forward) and Xavi Simons (22-year-old attacking midfielder) both played for PSG and had very different, but in both cases, negative experiences. Muani is still under contract and currently on loan at Spurs. But a return to Paris, where coach Luis Enrique has clearly sidelined him, seems impossible. Perhaps he will want to use his time in Paris to showcase his qualities. In any case, he will have teammates to reunite with, especially those from the French national team.
Simons, on the other hand, was a young talent that many fans hoped to see shine in Parisian colors, but he ended up leaving, apparently more interested in a more attainable starting position. It was a real disappointment, and he may have some regrets, especially since he quickly sought to leave Leipzig and is now struggling to establish himself at Tottenham.
3 – Lee Kang-In, the next step.
At the start of the season, hampered by injuries to Désiré Doué and Ousmane Dembélé, PSG had to rely on other players for their creativity. Little by little, Lee Kang-In (24-year-old midfielder/forward) has taken on this role. More daring, decisive, and consistent than last season, the Korean finally seems to be brimming with confidence and ready to showcase his talent. He still needs to prove himself, particularly in the Champions League. He could start tonight to seize a great opportunity. He would be one of the exciting players on the pitch.
2 – Making people forget Bayern and some doubts.
After 3 wins in 3 matches, PSG lost their previous game against Bayern Munich. A frustrating match to put behind us once we get back to winning ways. This would also help dispel the questions some are trying to raise about the squad or the “true level” of certain players.
1 – Move towards qualification as quickly as possible.
It’s the same for all the teams; there’s a desire to continue in the competition. To achieve this, the ideal scenario is to pick up points as soon as possible in order to finish in the top 8, which guarantees a direct entry to the round of 16. Both clubs can believe they can do it; we expect an intense match in this very special competition.
