Luis Enrique, Paris Saint-Germain’s coach since the summer of 2023, arrived in the capital with a two-year contract and then extended his stay until 2027. Now, the time has come to decide what to do next. There have been rumors of an imminent end to his tenure, with a clear response from sporting advisor Luis Campos. Sport reports that the problems are behind him, even if an extension is not guaranteed.
“Neither the club nor the coach has shown any signs of disagreement regarding the possibility of reaching an agreement. It is clear that the ball is in the Asturian’s court. PSG does not want Luis Enrique’s time at the club to end so soon.”
This is a clear and much more credible response than the strange rumor originating in England (based on a non-existent Bild article). Note that this doesn’t necessarily mean Luis Enrique will sign a new contract extension. He himself has emphasized that he has never stayed at a club for more than four years because his energy can wane.
However, a departure next summer is out of the question, and a longer-than-usual stint isn’t ruled out. In any case, it’s safe to assume that PSG would like to continue in the current direction. If a successor is to be appointed, it will need to be exceptionally well-prepared.
