Paris Saint-Germain and Vendée Fontenay faced each other this Saturday at the Stade de la Beaujoire in the Round of 32 of the 2025–2026 Coupe de France. The match ended with a 4–0 victory for Paris. After the game, the Vendée side’s coach spoke at a press conference, expressing some regrets but above all focusing on the positives of an exceptional evening.
Lambert: “It’s a good experience for my players and for me.”
“There are at least two goals we shouldn’t have conceded. And if we had scored one, it would have been a bit more joyful. Toward the end, the crowd deserved us to score a small goal for the atmosphere. It was the first time in their lives that the players were entering a stadium like this one. At some point, you have to let go.
Our start was pretty good. After that, we were a bit timid, but that’s also due to the opponent. Disappointment among the players? When you see how sore they are… It’s the first time they’ve had so many cramps. Seeing Dembélé and not being able to take the ball from him… Obviously, you observe and you learn. The accuracy of play, the ease with which they find each other and create chances—it’s incredible. It’s a good experience for my players and for me.”
Of course, there was hope of scoring at least one goal—not only to keep hope alive a little longer, but also to experience a special moment. Scoring against PSG, especially in a Ligue 1 stadium, would have been something unique. However, there is no point dwelling on that regret or on the goals conceded.
PSG approached the match very seriously, with a strong lineup and full concentration. It was logically difficult for a fifth-division club to compete. Still, there were some good moments. Above all, it was a valuable learning experience. Facing exceptional players highlights areas for improvement. In any case, it was a special match that will leave lasting memories.
