The underdog from the National 3 division enjoyed a great evening at the Stade de la Beaujoire, but couldn’t overcome the Parisian giants. Despite a promising performance on the pitch, Vendée Fontenay lost 0-4 to Paris Saint-Germain in the Round of 32 of the Coupe de France. Loïc Lambert, the Vendée club’s coach, spoke to beIN SPORTS after the match:
Lambert: “The real story is elsewhere; it’s about filling the Beaujoire.”
Congratulations on your match.
Thank you for all the praise. From a coach’s perspective, the first 25 minutes were very good. We had identified the characteristics of their game and their runs from deep. The penalty seems a bit harsh to me. In the second half, I asked them to loosen up a bit more because we were too timid.
We created chances at the end of the match, but I think there were two goals too many. It’s a deserved victory for PSG. The real story is elsewhere, it’s about filling the Beaujoire stadium. That’s a real achievement and showing the best side of what our club is all about. Congratulations to the players. The punishment has been handed down, and it’s logical.
We saw some beautiful moves. Is this another day for French football?
It means that when we’re in training, it’s also to improve. We want them to understand that with the ball, there are things to do and things not to do. We try to improve from the beginning to the end of the season, and that comes through both good performances and poor performances. I think my players are quite receptive. They never complain, and that’s what I like about them.
