Warren Zaïre-Emery, the 18-year-old Paris Saint-Germain-trained midfielder who is already becoming a regular in the professional team, spoke to the Telegraph at the inauguration of the PSG Campus. It was an opportunity for the youngster to talk about his place as a very young player, the attention he has to deal with, leaving the Camp des Loges, the Parisian project, his special place in Paris and his goals.
Zaire-Emery “All I want is for the club to succeed.”
2nd youngest ever Champions League player?
“These are records, so there’s always pride, but it goes beyond that. All I want is for the club to succeed, to go in the right direction and get as many results as possible, which is our goal.
How do you manage all the attention?
First and foremost, I remain myself. I try to perform as well as possible without question and always give my all on the pitch, whether it’s for Paris St-Germain or the French team. I’m proud to wear these shirts and to give my all for the club or the French team.
Leaving the Camp des Loges
I’ve done everything at Camp des Loges. But [here], it’s impressive: the modernity, the ultra-modern buildings, the machines. It shows that Paris St-Germain wants to move into another dimension and enter a new era.
The PSG project at the moment?
We have the right conditions, the team, the coach, we’re a collective and an exceptional team. Paris St-Germain is a world club, so it’s clear that when you have premises like this, buildings as modern as this and a team like Paris St-Germain, a coach who encourages young people to play, a philosophy of play, and a club that relies on young people, it shows that young people can come here and that we’re going to give them their chance.
Zaire-Emery: “Having a young team that knows how to play together and gives its all for each other.
The coach and the club are betting heavily on new players. I don’t think the club’s average age is very high. That’s what we want: to have players and to have them for the long term, to help them progress as well as possible, and to have a young team that knows how to play together and gives its all for each other.
Titi’s special status.
A Titi is a player who was trained at PSG, who has done everything for Paris St-Germain. And with the career I’ve had from association to the pros, it shows that I’m a “Titi” and that I’ll give everything for this club, for this shirt, these colors and these fans who are always behind us, who push us at every match, whether at home or away.
Zaire-Emery: “I hope to continue doing so for many years to come.
The goal for the future at PSG.
It’s the club where I’ve always played and where I’ll always give my best. I’ve been through every stage and, frankly, it’s a source of pride and pleasure to play for this club, so I hope to continue doing so for many years to come.
You know me, I don’t think I’m the best at showcasing myself or setting an example. But through my actions and what I do, I think I can be an example.
