Paris Saint-Germain beat Le Mans 0-2 (video highlights Le Mans/PSG) on Tuesday at the Stade Marie-Marvingt in the last eight of the Coupe de France 2024-2025. After the match, the Parisian club didn’t let the National side have their share of the spoils. Thierry Gomez regretted this decision on RMC Sport. Even though PSG will be leaving their share of the Coupe de France Féminine quarter-final on Friday.
“In this respect, they could have made an exception.
“I would have preferred the opposite, because the takings for the Coupe de France Feminine will be much lower than tonight’s takings. Look, it’s the rules, in absolute terms the rules are respected, so there’s nothing to criticize.
After that, what I would have liked is for PSG not to consider us a professional club, since we have a budget of 5 million euros… There are clubs that call themselves amateurs and have a bigger budget than us. We haven’t had any TV rights for two years.
We’re one of only four clubs in France without TV rights, so they could have made an exception. (…) But that’s the rules. ”
It’s understandable that Le Mans is disappointed, as there was some hope of obtaining additional income, even though the budget is of course not very high. But this is a professional club and PSG is under no obligation. It has always helped amateur clubs, except that Le Mans doesn’t have that status.
Which doesn’t mean that everything’s going well, but Paris can’t do everything for everyone. If there are no more TV rights for Le Mans, that’s regrettable. But it’s a problem that the National club has to solve on its own. They were still able to fill their stadium on this evening and attract the spotlight. We have to make the most of it. And a budget of millions isn’t too bad.
