PSG’s hectic schedule means that they need to keep up the momentum to maintain their lead in Ligue 1 and move confidently towards the Champions League. Monaco (3rd), eliminated from the French Cup in the Round of 16, have had more time to prepare. Next week’s Champions League clash is a must-win. The Monegasques will meet Benfica, while Paris will remain in France with a trip to Brest.
The Parisians’ future European opponents seem to be having a quiet weekend, but Nantes (14th) are showing great fighting spirit and won’t be doing the 8th-placed side any favours as they look to cling on to another European title.
In the latter, Nice (5th) and Lens (6th) have a great duel on their hands, while the other contenders look to be clear favorites: Marseille (2nd) take on Angers (12th), Lille (4th) host Le Havre, who are in serious danger, and Lyon (8th) welcome Reims (13th), who have just changed coach. It remains to be seen how Strasbourg (9th) will fare against Montpellier (17th), whose winning streak has come to an end at 2.
The match between Toulouse (10th) and Auxerre (11th) could also help to “split” the standings into 2. Or even tighten it. Finally, there’s a vital match for survival between two big names in danger: Saint-Etienne (16th) host Rennes (15th). Under their new coach Habib Beye, Rennes must build on last weekend’s victory over Strasbourg.
