Paris Saint-Germain drew 1-1 with Nice (video highlights Nice/PSG) on Sunday at the Allianz Riviera as part of Matchday 7 of Ligue 1 2024-2025. After the match, Paris coach Luis Enrique (54) spoke at a press conference. The Spaniard spoke of the performance of his players and the two faces of his team in this match.
Enrique “We went in with the desire to play and win.”
How do you explain the two faces of your team between these two halves?
“The explanation is very simple, an unusual level of inaccuracy from the majority of players in easy spaces, technical errors, easy situations at a level far above what we usually do.”
Is it important for you to have a team that knows how to manage its emotions?
“Of course, I’m proud of the attitude after that bad first half. Especially proud of the spirit of my players. There’s a very clear action at the end of the first half where there’s an aggression without ball on Hakimi, which had to be analyzed.
And my players were cautioned for protesting this action. In the second half, none of the players protested to the referee at any point. We went home with the desire to play and win. And yet it would have been easy to complain after Hakimi’s ankle was knocked out in the box.”
Enrique “I just see a promising start”.
You made one change at half-time, was it tactical or due to Randal Kolo Muani’s performance?
“I could have changed five players without any problem. Five players on the pitch could have made way for five on the bench. But it was this change that I found necessary to make.”
After seven games in Ligue 1 and two in the Champions League, how would you sum up the start of the season?
“Assessments are made at the end of the race. Maybe halfway through the season, but for the moment I just see a promising start. I think it’s a better start than last season.
But that’s not the most important thing. The most important thing is to win Ligue 1 and be competitive in all competitions. We’re only at the beginning of the season.”
