Paris Saint-Germain defeated Bayer Leverkusen 7–2 (match highlights: Bayer Leverkusen vs PSG) this Tuesday at the BayArena, as part of Matchday 3 of the 2025–2026 UEFA Champions League group stage. Following this emphatic win, journalist Daniel Riolo spoke on RMC Sport, saying he is almost convinced that PSG are on their way to a second consecutive Champions League title—though he still urged a bit of caution.

Riolo: “We have to try not to get carried away.”

“I’m trying to see which other teams in Europe can reach that level. Three weeks ago, PSG went to Barcelona and won with their B team. Bayern also make a very strong impression. We have to try not to get carried away. Let’s remember that last year, at the same time, Liverpool were destroying everyone—it was a massacre.”

Riolo: “I’m close to signing for it.”

“They (Liverpool) finished top of their group, were favorites, and still fell to PSG in the Round of 16. We know how quickly things can change in two-legged ties. But right now? Hand me a pen, because I’m close to signing off on PSG doing the back-to-back. I’m holding the pen in my hand already (…) 7–2, that’s a crazy scoreline! I feel like we don’t even realize how massive it is.”

It’s hard not to believe in another extraordinary PSG campaign, possibly leading all the way to the title. The team has retained the core qualities that brought success last season while adding new strengths—particularly in set-piece efficiency. Young players like Senny Mayulu (19) and Warren Zaïre-Emery (19) continue to rise in prominence, giving Paris even more depth and energy. The group looks confident, cohesive, and ambitious.

However, as Riolo reminded, the final triumph is far from guaranteed. Football moves fast—focus and consistency will be key, as well as a bit of luck at the right moment, given the presence of other top contenders.

Among them, Bayern Munich, PSG’s next opponent in two weeks. It won’t be a decisive clash since it’s still the group stage, but it will serve as a valuable test for both teams. Manchester City, Arsenal, and Real Madrid also remain strong threats. Nothing will come easy—but PSG have everything it takes to keep writing history.
