Paris Saint-Germain faced Flamengo on Wednesday (1–1, 3–1 on penalties) in the final of the Intercontinental Cup. A historic triumph for the capital club, which continues its unforgettable 2025 season. Speaking to PSG TV, Paris head coach Luis Enrique reflected on the victory.
Luis Enrique: “We’re happy for ourselves, of course, for the club and for our supporters.”
“We’re making history once again! We showed the same mentality we’ve had throughout this incredible, unforgettable 2025 season. We’re happy for ourselves, obviously, for the club, and for our supporters. It’s very special, and we have to keep going.
With our supporters, we’re connected. That connection exists in every match at the Parc des Princes and in every away game. We’re very happy. Now we need to rest — we still have one Coupe de France match left and then a bit of rest over Christmas. I think our team has a good mix of experienced players and young players. We’re very satisfied.”
PSG continue their record-breaking year by becoming the first club to win the Intercontinental Cup. It was a tight match, with the breakthrough coming at the very end after a memorable penalty shootout and a huge performance from Matvei Safonov, the 26-year-old Paris goalkeeper. With four saves, the Russian keeper took control of the shootout and delivered yet another trophy to PSG.
Luis Enrique and his players close out 2025 in the best possible way. After two European titles, PSG add a world title and become the first French club in history to achieve such a feat. A performance that will be remembered and one that sets the stage for 2026 with just as much ambition and hope for further conquests.
