On the margins of the press conference held on Saturday to discuss tomorrow’sLigue 1 2024-2025 Matchday 9 at the Stade Vélodrome against Olympique de Marseille, Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique was interviewed by PSG TV. The interview was an opportunity to talk about Marseille coach Roberto De Zerbi and the way he handles his players’ motivation.
Luis Enrique “You can tell he likes to attack”.
You won the first 2 Classicos with PSG, but OM have changed. Do you use last season’s victories or Marseille’s games this season to prepare for the match?
There are big differences in this case, there’s a new coach with a very different style. So we didn’t use last season’s matches, just the ones Marseille played under De Zerbi. He’s a coach who pushes the players to play with his philosophy, which I really like.
Do you have any philosophical similarities with De Zerbi?
Without a doubt. You can see that he likes to attack and not speculate about matches. We have the same idea of not thinking about anything other than winning every game.
Luis Enrique “You have to find the right amount of motivation to avoid excess.”
You’ve already said that sometimes you shouldn’t motivate players, but rather calm them down. How do you know what the right thing to do is?
In general terms, tomorrow you have to calm the tension for a match like this. There’s the importance of the match for us and the fans, so in general you have to calm things down. After that, every player is different. We need to find the right amount of motivation to avoid excess.
