Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool faced off this Tuesday at Anfield in the second leg of their 2025-2026 Champions League quarter-final. The match ended in a 2-0 victory for PSG (4-0 on aggregate). After the game, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi spoke to CBS Sports Golazo.
Al-Khelaïfi: “We are also thinking of Hugo Ekitike.”
Proud to be in the semi-finals?
Of course, but before talking about that, I want to emphasize that we are thinking of the fans who have lost their lives for football (the Hillsborough disaster in 1989). We are also thinking of Hugo Ekitike. As for qualifying, I am very happy and proud.
This is the third time in a row that we have reached the semi-finals. To come here, to an incredible stadium, and to win is something exceptional. We have to stay humble going forward. But we’re very happy.
How were the decisions made in 2023 to renew the project?
We tried everything, and I think that three years ago, with the new project, we tried something different, building with a very young team. We succeeded. The result is important, but the most important thing was our way of playing. Having a real team, not stars. There are no stars, even though we have some immense players, the Ballon d’Or winner. But the biggest star is the team. We want to play and enjoy ourselves.
Is everything in place?
Exactly, all the players work for the team, for the club. We have some of the best players, but above all, they play together. They always help each other. We have an exceptional coach, truly.
