Thilo Kehrer, a 29-year-old defender who played for Paris Saint-Germain from 2018 to 2022, now plays for AS Monaco. Always keeping a close eye on his former club’s performance, he spoke to the press about the capital club’s qualification for the Champions League final for the second consecutive year.
Kehrer: “What’s most impressive is seeing how they reacted to the circumstances.”
“What’s most impressive, I think, is seeing how they reacted to the circumstances. And to do that almost two seasons in a row without having had a break, a vacation between the two seasons, with all the matches they played.
I think that over the last two years, they’re the team that has played the most matches in all of Europe. I don’t know the statistics for all the teams in the world.”
Kehrer: “It’s extraordinary, not only for them, but also for France.”
“But it’s certain they should be at the top of the rankings. And to have this same desire, the same ambition, and above all, the same collective strength, is extraordinary, not only for them, but also for France to have PSG showing such great things in Europe. I think it’s good for French football. I hope they win this second Champions League title.”
PSG, and especially the PSG under Luis Enrique, has a team and a dynamic that allow it to position itself as the best club in Europe. Against Bayern Munich, the Parisians won the offensive battle in the first leg and then the defensive battle in the second.
The main quality of this Parisian team is its ability to adapt to playing conditions without ever losing its composure. A second consecutive Champions League final is a historic achievement for a French club. So, obviously, there’s this final hurdle we want to see them overcome. But seeing them here today, in these conditions, is already an achievement that deserves to be acknowledged.
