Vitinha, 26, the Paris Saint-Germain and Portugal midfielder, displayed considerable caution at a press conference in Palm Beach, Florida. In comments reported by AFP, the Parisian player reminded everyone that the status of a favorite cannot be decreed before the matches.

Vitinha: “We know we have a lot of quality and talent”

“We know we have a lot of quality and talent, with players who play for big clubs […], but on paper, it’s worthless,” the Paris Saint-Germain player stated at a press conference in Palm Beach, Florida.

The message is simple, and it rings true: football doesn’t reward CVs, it rewards teams capable of delivering on the day. For PSG, this statement perfectly reflects Vitinha’s evolution. The Portuguese player is no longer just an elegant player with the ball at his feet; he is also becoming a voice of maturity, capable of bringing the team’s message back to what’s essential: the pitch, always the pitch.

Vitinha: “We are contenders”

“I would say we are contenders, without a doubt, a very strong team. But I wouldn’t say we are favorites.” Vitinha stated that he feels “very good, physically and mentally.”

Vitinha doesn’t shy away from ambition; he keeps it in check. Portugal obviously has a very high-level squad, but the Parisian midfielder refuses to turn this quality into a certainty. This is exactly the kind of approach that protects a locker room: recognizing the strength of the team without creating unnecessary pressure. At PSG, this active humility has become a true hallmark of key players.

After a long and intense season with Paris Saint-Germain, this distinction is important. Vitinha is one of those players whose influence depends as much on his clear thinking as on his work rate. Seeing him say he is physically and mentally ready also provides an important indication: the Portuguese player arrives with ambition, but without unnecessary fanfare. No grand pronouncements, no posturing. Just the desire to prove himself, once again.

In a football world where status is quickly established and even more quickly destroyed, Vitinha has chosen a more understated approach. Portugal can aim high, but they will have to prove it on the pitch. A simple, almost obvious truth, but one often forgotten as soon as a national team fields too many big names.
