Having arrived in the summer mercato in July 2022, Nuno Mendes, the 22-year-old left-back with a contract running until June 2026, has been frustrating at times due to recurring injuries. However, he has managed to impress everyone on the pitch and is expected to sign a contract extension soon, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, like Achraf Hakimi (26-year-old right-back) not long ago.
As far as Hakimi is concerned, there’s no longer the slightest doubt, and we’re just waiting for the official communication. Nuno Mendes appears to be at almost the same point. Another piece of very good news, with a very talented player who is gradually establishing himself as one of the benchmarks in his position.
With Portugal and PSG, he’s also showing that he can play in a more defensive role, even if it’s frustrating to watch, given his attacking qualities. There’s also a fragility that needs to be corrected.
But there’s plenty of reason to believe in Nuno Mendes, despite the scarcity of top-class full-backs. Let’s hope this extension is confirmed.
