Paris Saint-Germain secured a 1-3 victory against Strasbourg this Saturday at the Stade de la Meinau, as part of the 7th matchday of the 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season. Following the match, PSG manager Luis Enrique spoke to Ligue1+.
Luis Enrique: “We managed to achieve what we came for.”
The impact of substitutes seems to be a specialty of yours. You have a lot of players—good players—coming off the bench, don’t you?
It’s a recurring theme; in every match, when the players from the bench come on, things improve—there’s more space. Sometimes changes are necessary because the situation becomes very difficult, but we’re happy. We started well and created chances, but we didn’t score; then we conceded a goal, and things got a bit shaky. In the end, we managed to achieve what we came for—the victory—and we’re pleased.
What adjustments need to be made to address these difficulties?
Every match is difficult, but what I really value is giving my players the opportunity to show me that they are ready. You have to evaluate and judge performances—that’s the key to everything in football. Ultimately, we’ve secured the three points and are now in the top three, which is our goal.
Luis Enrique: “It’s true that we don’t have a true specialist.”
A lot of missed penalties?
It’s about putting in the work—that’s where the quality lies. We may not have a designated specialist, but I believe that whenever we’ve reached a penalty shootout in a final, we’ve stepped up; the players have the personality and the quality. We have a great deal of confidence in all the players, but it’s true that we don’t have a real specialist.
