Paris Saint-Germain secured a 2-0 victory over Olympique Lyonnais this Sunday at the Parc des Princes, as part of the 8th matchday of the 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season. Following the match, PSG manager Luis Enrique spoke at a press conference.
Luis Enrique: “I would like to dedicate this victory to Kvara.”
Are you proud of the substitutes who helped secure the win?
“Yes, of course. These are important moments because they demonstrate their level. Whenever they get the chance to play, it’s always a positive thing. Naturally, they deserve to play more, but that’s difficult. I’m happy for them. And I’d like to dedicate this victory to Kvara—we are very proud of him.”
You’ve moved to the top of Ligue 1; what are your thoughts on that?
“What matters to me is that the team is in first place. We started this competition facing many challenges, but we continue to improve. What I see today—and what I’ve seen in training all week—is the quality and ambition of my players.”
Luis Enrique: “We deserve this victory.”
Can you tell us about the level of confidence within this group?
“We’ve suffered. It’s always tough after a Champions League match, but today we faced an opponent against whom we wanted to show our true level. It was complicated, especially in the first half, but I think we gained the upper hand as the game went on. We deserve this win.”
What is your take on Mika Godts’ debut?
“Mika is an ambitious player with a lot of quality. He’s only 21 years old. He started the season with a great desire to make an impact. We have a lot of faith in him—he’s signed for several years. He needs calm and tranquility. He really needed this goal. We hope to see great things from him.”
Luis Enrique: “We are reliable, and we always have the desire to win.”
Has PSG reached its cruising speed?
“No, no—it’s still the beginning of the season. We’ve only played three Champions League matches. Last year, we won our first three games, yet we didn’t finish in the top eight. But if there’s one thing we’ve demonstrated over the last three years, it’s that we are a reliable team. Sure, we have our ups and downs, but we are reliable, and we always have the desire to win.”
PSG was named Club of the Season at the Ballon d’Or ceremony—what are your thoughts on that?
“We won that? Congratulations to all the fans!”
Luis Enrique: “They are ‘Titis’ [homegrown talents], and they are important.”
In the mixed zone, Mayulu mentioned that you helped him a great deal during a difficult period; is that your greatest strength?
“It’s always challenging to talk to a player who isn’t getting playing time. He deserves many more minutes, but the competition for spots is intense. The players who are on the pitch know that if they ease off for even five minutes, someone else is ready to step in. Today, Quentin Ndjantou played his first minutes, and he was exceptional. He’s a machine—a Formula 1 car! He’s going to be very important, too. The same goes for Mayulu, who even scored in a Champions League final. They are ‘Titis’—homegrown talents—and they are important.”
