This Saturday, as part of Matchday 10 of the 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season, Paris Saint-Germain faced Troyes at the Parc des Princes. Adrien-Mehdi Monfray, the 35-year-old defender for the Troyes club, spoke to Ligue1+ following PSG’s 1-0 victory.
Monfray: “We didn’t look out of our depth.”
Many of you are experiencing Ligue 1 for the first time this year—did you feel at all overawed tonight?
Good evening, everyone. We’re proud; I don’t think we looked out of our depth at all. We played the kind of match we set out to play. We have a few regrets, though, because in the second half, we were strong in our transitions and executed what we had planned. I think we deserved to be a bit more of a threat.
Do you need more clinical finishing against a side like Paris?
Exactly. We had a few spells where we were able to move the ball quickly and nearly go all the way. Our final passes let us down tonight—if those had come off, we could have really made them sweat. But that’s football; scoring goals is the hardest part.
Monfray: “I was angry.”
Is it frustrating to concede from a set-piece?
Yes, I was angry. It’s something we had worked on; we knew they were very strong in their combination play—everyone knows that. We had been briefed on it, so it’s disappointing, and it’s something we need to iron out. Even though we didn’t come away with any points, we gained experience and learned a lot, which is a major positive for us tonight.
