Gonçalo Ramos, the 25-year-old Paris Saint-Germain and Portugal striker, opened up during the show Alta Definição. He notably discussed the serious injury he sustained at the start of the 2024-2025 season during the opening Ligue 1 match against Le Havre—a tackle that caused him great alarm and halted his momentum.
Ramos: “That kind of ordeal makes you stronger and teaches you how to face future challenges.”
“I injured my foot during the first match of the season. I played 15 minutes, and then I got hurt. When I arrived at the hospital, the doctor spoke of a possible fibula fracture. The next day, he told me I needed surgery. I was out for three months.
I was ready for the season. I was highly motivated and in top shape. And then—three months on the sidelines. I was terrified I wouldn’t be able to walk again. I underwent surgery and lost a lot of mobility—and it was my standing foot. But that kind of ordeal makes you stronger and teaches you how to face future challenges.”
Ramos has faced a run of bad luck since joining PSG. After arriving in 2023, he was hampered by a prolonged illness that required hospitalization and caused significant weight loss, necessitating a mid-season physical conditioning program. Hopes were high that he would use the summer of 2024 to return to full fitness and establish himself. The start was promising, but a tackle sent him to the treatment room for three months. It was a serious injury that clearly terrified the player, and it also cost him his match rhythm.
Subsequently, the Portuguese forward was never able to fully settle into PSG’s style of play. While he has occasionally proven decisive—even in big matches—the forward has struggled to take the next step and truly challenge for a starting spot. We hope to see him turn things around, but a departure seems the most likely outcome at this stage, even if it remains just a rumor for now. We have previously seen Ramos display a fantastic attitude and great fighting spirit; it is certainly possible that this will continue in Paris.
