Mohamed Salah, the 32-year-old Egyptian striker whose contract with Liverpool expires next June, has been rumoured to be in the sights of Paris Saint-Germain. At the beginning of the week, there was even talk of discussions taking place. However, several media outlets have denied this, and Parisian president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi has once again spoken to journalist Ben Jacobs.
“Asked Nasser Al-Khelaifi whether PSG have made contact with Mo Salah. “I love Mo Salah. He’s from our [MENA] part of the world. I’m very proud of what he’s done in the Premier League and at LFC. I have big respect for him and for Liverpool. He has a contract with Liverpool and so we never talked to him.”
As was the case earlier in the week, Al-Khelaïfi is quite clear: PSG have not made a move for Salah. Mind you, we know that in the mercato business there can be a lot of talk and a lot of reality behind it. But at least we appreciate the respect shown, without any pressure on the player or Liverpool.
It’s also possible that Paris isn’t actually doing anything, although it’s possible to make enquiries. The situation could be tempting with a contract. It would be logical to want to know how much of an opportunity there is. From January onwards, Salah will be free to commit himself to the club of his choice to join at the end of the season. PSG may be on the lookout.
But there’s nothing concrete at the moment, and an extension would come as no surprise. Let’s wait and see if anything develops. At the moment, the mercato is very hazy, with rumors flying in all directions and not the slightest confirmation.
