Mohamed Salah, the 32-year-old Egyptian striker whose contract with Liverpool expires next June, has been rumoured to be in the sights of Paris Saint-Germain. Talksport confirmed (first reports from L’Equipe) on Monday that the Egyptian’s arrival is a real option.
“Salah has opened the door.”
“PSG have denied [being in negotiations], but sources say the two parties have been in talks for a long time, except this time Mohamed Salah has opened the door.
“If they have the opportunity to sign Mohamed Salah, there’s no question of them refusing.”
Publicly, PSG’s position is that we’re happy to be past the era of superstars. If they have the opportunity to sign Mohamed Salah, there’s no question of them refusing. There’s absolutely no chance of them refusing.
Now, if Mohamed Salah wanted this news to get out, in order to put a bit of pressure on Liverpool, that wouldn’t surprise me.”
Is this the big story of the next few weeks? Possibly, but we have no idea where it might lead. There could be a lot of rumours, without any signings taking shape.
It’s a classic strategy to have agents or clubs launch indications in order to put pressure on a negotiation. In this case, it could well be Salah’s entourage. But the idea of signing for PSG could not be ruled out.
Let’s wait and see. Salah would come out of the idea of recruiting young, but PSG have put a healthy base back in place and it’s hard to pass up the opportunity to recruit one of the world’s best players in his position if the opportunity is confirmed.
