Xavi Simons, the 21-year-old striker/midfielder under contract to Paris Saint-Germain until 2027, has been loaned back to RB Leipzig for the 2024-2025 season after a long wait. It was without an option to buy, so the future seemed very open. But the Dutchman was finally sold to the German club this winter. The deal was made official today.
There was some disappointment, as Simons seemed to have a bright future ahead of him in Paris. Clearly attached to the club and the city, the talented Dutchman was eagerly awaited. All the more so with the new project, where there seemed to be room for him. Except that the player had another preference, which he will perhaps explain.
So it’s time to move on, and PSG seem to have done just that. There’s a fine squad to move on to without worrying, and a sum of 80 million euros (50+30 in bonuses according to all the media). A very interesting sale, with a percentage on resale also mentioned, all the more so for a player recruited free from Barcelona.
All we can do now is wish Simons all the best, and concentrate on what’s next for PSG.
