This Wednesday evening, Paris Saint-Germain lost 1-2against Atlético de Madrid on Matchday 4 of the Champions League 2024-2025 phase at the Parc des Princes. We present you with the tops and flops of this defeat.
Tops –
Warren’s goal shows the way
It’s not that difficult to score, just look at the cool goal scored by the Parisian star. Feinting, poking, you don’t always have to rack your brains, and it’s a shame his team-mates didn’t follow suit.
Flops –
The “made in Paris” scenarios
It was almost a foregone conclusion that PSG wouldn’t be able to get the match off to the right start against an opponent who was pretty “rubbish” at this game, or at least who did what they knew how to do: defend to the hilt.
The result: a fine start to the match, then the first cold shower due to laxity on the part of Nuno Mendes and the Parisian defence, before a last-minute counter-attack, a rather unbelievable (lame) move by Vitinha and a mole to come and correct a Donnarumma who was too sleepy for an Atletico team that only fired twice in the second half.
Inefficiency/bad choices
This PSG concedes fewer chances, but scores easy goals. In the Champions League, this PSG had more chances but failed to convert them. Hakimi shooting instead of passing, Barcola playing solo when he could have put the ball away, Marquinhos heading a pass to Oblak, Dembélé muffing his shots.
You could write a comic book about PSG’s adventures and misadventures. At some point, we’re going to have to change our ways to score goals when we have the chance, otherwise it’ll be a second half of the season without Europe, a first for PSG since the arrival of the Qataris. When we’re up against the wall, we’ll find out what this team’s made of.
