On Wednesday, Paris Saint-Germain hosted Stade de Brest in the second leg of the Champions League play-offs (7-0 video highlights PSG/Brest). After the match, Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi spoke to PSG TV about the Red and Blue’s qualification.
Nasser Al-Khelaïfi “I’d like to pay special tribute to Brest, who did France proud”
“It was a fine match for our Club and another demonstration of the team project we are building, not only illustrated by tonight’s 7 different goalscorers but also by the team as a whole. Once again, we were a collective. I’d like to pay special tribute to Brest, who have done France and French soccer proud in this Champions League campaign.
President Le Saint, Yann (Kerdraon), Pascal (Robert), Grégory (Lorenzi) and the whole Brest team are building something for the long term and have always treated us very well. It’s been an honour for PSG to take to the field over the last two weeks against a club that French soccer can be proud of.”
Brest’s run remains historic for the club, and a creditable one. At the start of the season, it was hard to imagine this team playing in a Champions League play-off, given their group, and yet they managed to do just that. For their part, PSG, who continue to go from strength to strength, gave their opponents no chance.
It was probably one of the Parisian club’s most accomplished performances of the season. If just a few weeks ago realism was a problem for PSG, this is no longer the case. Little by little, the Parisian club is approaching its best level. We’ve reached the key moment of the season, and it’s clear that Luis Enrique and his men are ready to make history.
