This Saturday at 9pm (CET), Paris Saint-Germain take on Inter Milan at Munich’s Allianz Arena in the final of the Champions League 2024-2025. At a press conference, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi spoke about the match and his team’s opponents.
Inzaghi “We must have the will to win this match”
“What did you ask of your players this week?
“I asked for concentration, determination, but not obsession. We’ve got world and European champions in this group, and they know not to put too much pressure on themselves. We know there could be a lot of twists and turns in this match, and we have to be brave. We have to be determined to win this match. Paris are going to be strong, very well prepared, with a lot of quality. We have to do what we’ve always done.”
Inzaghi “I’m proud to be their coach.”
You weren’t favourites in Istanbul in 2023 against Manchester City (0-1), there’s talk of 50-50 this time around. What can Inter Milan have more of at the moment?
“Istanbul’s experience can make the difference tomorrow (Saturday). We know that every match has its story, that every detail can count for a lot. But tomorrow, the players are all available. Having everyone available is the best thing. I’m proud to be their coach.”
Inzaghi «Ils ont une équipe très forte, qui mérite la finale comme nous»
Your team is one of the oldest in the competition, PSG one of the youngest… How do you counter this youthfulness?
“The coach always imagines a style of play. PSG are a team renowned in Europe for their style of play. We need to play a very strong match technically, and keep up a good rhythm to have possession against a team like PSG. They have a very strong team, who deserve the final like us, with a coach, Luis Enrique, whom I admire a lot.”
Unlike PSG, Inter have the advantage of having played Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona, two teams with the same profile as the club from the capital. All they need to do is prepare in the same way, following similar tactics. And let’s not forget that this team has only led for 15 minutes of the entire competition.
All in all, it’s hard to talk about 50/50, especially when you consider that Inter Milan played in the final two years ago, losing 1-0 to Manchester City. For this final, the Italian club seems to have a head start. Of course, PSG can do it, but there’s a slight tendency to underestimate this opponent, who has completed an XXL course and has weapons capable of greatly embarrassing the PSG team.
