This Friday evening at the Parc des Princes, Paris Saint-Germain hosted AS Monaco for their first home match of the season, marking Matchday 3 of the French league. Despite opening the scoring early, the Parisians fell 1–2 to the side from the Principality. Monaco midfielder Stanis Idumbo spoke to Ligue 1 Plus about the comeback ASM staged to defeat the Rouge et Bleu.

What Monaco achieved tonight is huge, isn’t it?
Of course—it’s the result of months of hard work, confidence, and talent, because we gave it our all during the pre-season. It represents months of work and, above all, the desire to do better than last year.
You did a lot of defensive work, yet you managed to save enough energy for that goal at the end?
Thank God—I want to thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Without Him, I wouldn’t be where I am today. The last few years were very difficult, but this year the Lord is rewarding me. I’m really happy with how things have gone since the start of the season.
Idumbo: “In the first half, we weren’t pressing much; it was tough.”
Why did you move to the left for the goal?
I saw Marquinhos closing off the inside, so I accelerated quickly—he wasn’t expecting it. I played to my strengths.
What was the difference between the first and second halves?
You could see that in the first half, we weren’t pressing much; it was tough. The coach told us we needed to have confidence in ourselves. We weren’t in a bad spell, and we had to keep believing. That’s what we did by scoring that early goal.
