Here’s our saga. The 5 good reasons to follow a match (with some adaptations). We’ll take a look at what’s attractive before each match, with a mix of seriousness and humor. Mind you, this is by no means an exhaustive tour of the subject. We continue here with Paris Saint-Germain’s match this Saturday against Rennes (11th) at Roazhon Park as part of the 25th day of Ligue 1 2024-2025 (kick-off 5pm, UTC+1).

5 – Habib Beye takes on PSG as coach for the 1st time.

We’ve seen Habib Beye against PSG as a player, we’ve heard him talk about the Parisian club for years as a consultant, and now he’s going to take on the challenge of stopping the Parisian team as a coach. It’s a first, which could be an interesting point. Even if we can bear in mind that Paris will have its head in the Champions League at least for a while.

4 – A test for the Parisian squad.

This Parisian group has already been impressive in its collective strength despite a little rotation, but this is a new piece here. After Wednesday’s frustrating 0-1 defeat by Liverpool in the first leg of the Round of 16, there’s the return leg on Tuesday. That keeps our minds busy, and we’ve got to keep our strength up, so we may need to rest. At the same time, other players will certainly have the opportunity to shine. Will we see a team that always plays with intensity and quality? It’s a good test of consistency in Rennes.

3- More time for the youngsters?

As we’ve just mentioned, we’re expecting some rotation in this match. Youngsters could therefore play, including the classic Senny Mayulu (18), but perhaps also Ibrahim Mbaye (17-year-old striker). Or a little surprise. And let’s not forget Warren Zaïre-Emery (19 today), except that he’s a regular starter.

2- Points to score.

Here too, as we said, the rotation means that players who weren’t regulars against Liverpool should get more playing time. An opportunity to pick up a win, but also to show their mettle ahead of the Liverpool game (and beyond, of course). A great motivation.

1 – Keeping busy in the meantime.

Several times in the article, as in our video on the match, Liverpool was mentioned. We can’t pretend: the trip to Anfield is more eagerly awaited than the one to Rennes. Even if it’s not without interest and, we hope, not without spectacle. So, above all, we want the time to pass quickly, so that we can get back to the confrontation with the Reds. A PSG match is always a good way to keep busy.
