This Saturday evening, Paris Saint-Germain won 1-4 (video highlights Rennes/PSG) against Rennes on Matchday 25 of Ligue 1 2024-2025 at Roazhon Park. Here are our top and bottom stories.
Tops –
Another victory, despite the slump
PSG wins in Ligue 1, whether they’re on form or not. Rennes may have had a very good game at times, but PSG crushed (by the scoreline) this team, which played well but was still too naïve. PSG must not be given any opportunities. With the array of goals scored in every match, PSG know that to lose, they’d have to score at least two goals, if not many more.
Safonov
He was good, especially in the second half. He stayed focused on his job and did what he had to do to keep the Bretons at bay. He was reassuring in his area and never gave the impression of being in trouble. Good game from him.
Barcola hurts Rennes
A goal and an assist and PSG were well on the way to their 20th win in 25 Ligue 1 matches. He’s so quick and when he’s determined, nothing seems to stop him (except a push from Konaté in the back). He was at it again, and above all, he was good for a period before disappearing a little from the pitch. It’s good to have such high-quality halves, because it shows you can count on him.
Flops –
Lucas Beraldo
Very much in trouble, he was often caught out in a hurry, and this largely contributed to the Bretons’ renewed form. He lacks punch and defensive assurance. For the time being, this doesn’t allow him to claim a place in the 11, as we see his flaws far too often. But he’s still young, and PSG need to take him to the next level.
A match of mixed results
It’s hard to go from Paris’ performance against Liverpool at the Parc des Princes to this match against Rennes. The Bretons succeeded in casting doubt over the Parisians. Luis Enrique’s men won’t say it, but clearly, heads were turned at Anfield for the Champions League.
Zaire-Emery/Hernandez – Not yet at 100%
At the highest level, it’s easy to see when a player isn’t at his best. The 19-year-old was average, neutral and lacking any real flavour. As for Hernandez, he put his opponents through far too much physical torture before showing his weaknesses, both in running and in the more technical duels.
