Nasser Al-Khekaïfi, president of Paris Saint-Germain, spoke to the media on the sidelines of the draw for the 2025-2026 Champions League. In comments relayed by L’Equipe, he discussed the end of the transfer window for PSG and the TV rights in France.
Al-Khekaïfi: “We’re happy with what we have.”
“Is the PSG transfer window over?
The official closing date is Monday. But we’re good, we’re happy with our squad. I don’t think we’ll be very active. We might sell a few players. But we’re happy with what we have.”
The Parisian transfer window isn’t over yet; perhaps a recruitment move could be considered if a good opportunity arises. But Al-Khelaïfi is quite clear and confirms the sentiment lately: the main idea is to sell players who aren’t in coach Luis Enrique’s plans. Which can be quite intense when you consider some of the difficult negotiations. However, it’s less exciting for the fans. We understand that.”
Al-Khelaïfi: “I don’t know how they’re going to do it.”
“PSG currently has significantly fewer domestic rights than its European competitors. What do you think?”
It’s very difficult. Today, I don’t know how much we’ll get in domestic rights. Last year, we knew… This season, we don’t know anything. I’m very worried about the French clubs. There are projects that depend heavily on TV rights. I don’t know how they’ll manage.
The Ligue 1+ platform is just getting started…
I hope this channel will succeed. I asked how much we’ll get, but I haven’t got an answer.” This is the first time in our fourteen years here that we don’t know how much money we’ll receive. I’m obviously more worried about the clubs, who don’t have much other income than TV rights. It’s going to be very hard, very difficult. I’ll let LFP Media (the League’s commercial subsidiary) work on it. But ultimately, I want to see how much PSG receives…
Al-Khelaïfi: “I hope this channel succeeds.”
You seem to have serious doubts about the current system, whether this platform can bring in significant sums for the clubs.
The most important thing for me, whether it’s a channel or any other system, is how much French clubs will receive. I hope this channel succeeds, but there’s a lot of uncertainty.”
Everyone wants this new LFP channel to provide the necessary guarantees and revenue for French football, but the PSG president isn’t pretending: he’s not certain. This is a complicated time for the clubs. They’ve seen TV rights fall recently, and this time they still don’t know what they’ll receive at the end of the season. A bit of uncertainty, which is inevitably annoying.
It’s less difficult for Paris to manage, as there are other great sources of revenue. But it’s still important, especially when it comes to competing with Europe’s biggest clubs. They don’t have such a problem to manage. We can only hope that the LFP’s solution is the right one. The first few weekends have at least been enjoyable to watch in terms of the entertainment surrounding the matches and the coverage. That’s encouraging. Not to mention the content available 24/7 for those with Ligue 1+ subscriptions.
