Lee Kang-In, the 24-year-old Korean midfielder, arrived at the summer mercato in July 2023 from Mallorca and is under contract at Paris Saint-Germain until June 2028. He has achieved some fine things, but is struggling to fully establish himself, and there is talk of a departure this mercato. Today, L’Equipe assures us that there will soon be a meeting to define a situation that is currently rather vague.
Lee and PSG ready to continue together…or to part ways?
“If he feels comfortable in the Parisian context and won’t force his departure, he won’t close the door on a great opportunity. As for the technical staff, they are disappointed by the player’s output. Today, PSG are giving the impression that their player is not for sale. Is this a genuine desire, or rather (and more likely) a way of not devaluing his assets too much? A forthcoming meeting will set out the expectations of both parties.”
It’s a particularly blurred case for this mercato. Lee hasn’t been playing much lately, and he hasn’t really managed to make his mark in Paris. That’s clear. But he also has a certain talent, a particularly well-developed versatility and great energy on the pitch. We can still hope to see him break through further.
In a squad that wants to win everything, you also need players who are willing to play a little less, while being ready to help out when they get the chance. That’s not so easy to find. PSG has been particularly spared from injury, and the staff will no doubt continue to do an excellent job, but bad luck can happen very quickly. If anything, we feel it would be wise to beef up the squad.
Hence the doubts surrounding this matter. Not to mention the fact that concrete, interesting offers don’t seem to be piling up. This could change as the mercato progresses. This is an important point. As are the possibilities for Paris to recruit players. We’ll have to wait and see. This meeting could help, if it goes ahead. But it would be logical for PSG to take stock of the situation with Lee, as with other players.
