This Sunday, the Paris Saint-Germain and Guingamp women’s teams will face off at the AOK Stadion (streaming on Disney+) at 9 p.m. CET on Matchday 1 of the 2025-2026 Women’s Champions League. The match was discussed by Parisian midfielder and captain Sakina Karchaoui (29) at a press conference.
Karchaoui: “It’s a pleasure to be back in it.”
“There’s a lot of desire, that’s for sure. It’s true that last season, it was a competition we weren’t able to play in. Being back in it is a pleasure, and we can’t wait to get started, to rediscover it in a different format. We’re ready for tomorrow. We saw this format last season for the men, and it made us want to play even more.”
It’s nothing but joy. We’re going to discover another side of the Women’s Champions League, and we can’t wait to get started against a very strong Wolfsburg team. We know their physical, athletic, and tactical qualities. They’re a team we’ve faced in the past,” the club’s official website reported.
PSG came up short last season, losing in the preliminary round to Juventus. There’s a real sense of joy at the prospect of facing them again. You can feel all that determination in Karchaoui’s words, even though she also knows this first match will be difficult.
The draw wasn’t kind to the Parisians, and they’re starting with a top-level team with plenty of experience. It’s a great way to get into the competition, but you also need a strong performance to put yourself in the right frame of mind.
