Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, President of Paris Saint-Germain, sometimes finds himself at the heart of controversy and criticism due to his status and the positions he takes. Charles Villeneuve, president of PSG between 2008 and 2009, spoke to RMC about this issue. Villeneuve’s main reason for this is the importance that Nasser Al-Khelaïfi and PSG have taken on in French soccer.
“If he has really imposed PSG’s power over the League, that’s great, because PSG’s success enhances the value of Ligue 1.
Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, there’s no man who knows better than him all the dimensions of managing PSG, including its devious aspects with all the stories that can be made about it, the schemes that are denounced… I also know the atmosphere that reigns around the management of a club like that.”
There’s no denying that PSG have moved into a different dimension over the last ten years, and it’s obvious that without the Parisian club, the French championship would remain in the shadow of the other four European leagues.
Whether it’s thanks to its performances or its mercato, PSG has always been able to place itself among the European giants. On the other hand, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi has always worked to ensure that the club from the capital is the figurehead of the French championship.
Fortunately, a man like Al-Khelaïfi now has his say and a certain amount of power when it comes to decision-making. Just like in the days of the great Olympique Lyonnais, with its president Jean-Michel Aulas, I but who obviously bothered less than president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi.
