Axel Tape, the 17-year-old Paris Saint-Germain-trained defender whose contract expired this summer, was rumoured to be on his way out of PSG at the end of the season. This is now certain, as Bayer Leverkusen have made his arrival official.
It’s a disappointment, because there was real hope that Tape would grow up at PSG and perhaps establish himself over the years. But there was clearly no agreement to continue down this path. Perhaps the defender was looking for “more space” sooner, or the Parisian club isn’t totally convinced by his potential. At least, compared to other players.
Noham Kamara (18), for example, showed great promise at the end of the season and is in the squad for the Club World Cup. In any case, that’s part of soccer. It’s impossible to keep every player. We can only wish Tape every success for the future.
