A historic moment for Marseille fans as their team beat Paris Saint-Germain 1–0 in a rescheduled, highly controversial Classique. Weakened by injuries, the Parisians suffered their first defeat at the Orange Vélodrome in 14 years. Nayef Aguerd, Marseille defender and the only goalscorer on the night, spoke to Ligue1Plus after the match to share his joy.
Is this victory incredible after 14 years without a win?
“It’s an important match for the people of Marseille, and thanks to the coach and all the staff who worked hard on this Paris team. We’re going to keep working — we also have an important match coming up against Ajax Amsterdam.”
Aguerd: “It’s a team that plays very good football.”
How does it feel to score in a Classique?
“It’s not my job to score goals, but if I get the chance I won’t miss it. We’ve worked on it in training — there are high demands in training. We try to make the most of our strengths.”
Did everything go exactly as planned?
“It wasn’t an easy match. It’s a team that plays very good football, presses high and puts in a lot of intensity. As I said at the start, all the credit goes to the coach because he knew how to stop them. We gave everything, we had to sacrifice ourselves and run a lot. It worked — three points at home, and we’ll keep going.”
