Enzo Renou, the 24-year-old striker for Vendée Fontenay, was invited by RMC Sport to discuss the upcoming 2025-2026 French Cup round of 32 match against Paris Saint-Germain (the weekend of Saturday, December 20th, the match date is yet to be confirmed). A “dream” moment, to be approached with ambition.
Renou: “We’ll go there with intentions and a game plan to try and pull off an upset.”
“Playing against Marquinhos and Pacho is a dream come true. It will be something exceptional, especially against this PSG side that just reached the Champions League final. Playing against them is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
The goal is to play well. We know it will be very difficult, but we’ll go there with intentions and a game plan to try and pull off an upset, why not?” No one has done it before, but we’re going to try to put on a great performance.”
Of course, Vendée Fontenay knows the task ahead is immense and that they’ll need a good dose of luck to qualify. But there’s no question of approaching the match with the mindset of simply observing the opponent. They have to seize their opportunity fully; it’s the only way to achieve something historic.
And they must fully savor the opportunity to face some of the best in the world. Even if PSG might be rotating their squad, just a few days after their trip to Qatar for the Intercontinental Cup on December 17th, there will be some great talent on the pitch. The challenge is to approach the match with enthusiasm and confidence, while fully aware that it could be an incredibly difficult encounter.
