To round off Matchday 9 of Ligue 1, Paris Saint-Germain travelled to the Stade Vélodrome to take on rivals Olympique de Marseille, and came away with a commanding victory. After the match, Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique spoke to PSG TV about his players’ performance.
Enrique “I think we lived up to what our fans wanted”
“I’m very satisfied. I think we lived up to what our fans wanted, which was to see a brave team that went for the win from the first minute by pressing high, taking risks, wanting to win the game from the very first moments.”
Enrique “I think this type of match is very special for our supporters, for us too”
“We lived up to the expectations of our supporters present at the Parc, playing away with that attitude of perseverance right up to the last minute. I think this type of match is very special for our supporters, and for us too.
Marseille are a rival team in the standings and tonight we put ourselves in the lead, this time with points to spare, so I think it’s a very good weekend for us.”
A fine away win for PSG against their Marseille rivals, who were widely tipped to be the favourites. Luis Enrique’s men showed their intentions very quickly in this match. Although the red card was a major setback, it did not alter the dominance and control that the Parisian team already had.
All they had to do to break the deadlock and extinguish Marseille’s hopes was to play their game. The win was a welcome boost for PSG, who have regained a degree of confidence following their draw with PSV Eindhoven.
Now it’s time to keep up the good work, as there are other important fixtures coming up, particularly on the European stage.
