Paris Saint-Germain won by the narrowest of margins against RC Lens (see PSG/Lens video summary) on Saturday evening. Matchday 10 of the French Ligue 1 saw the capital club extend their lead over their rivals. Despite the 3 points, it was a pre-Champions League match for Luis Enrique’s players, who dominated sterilely with 11 against 10, and saved themselves from injury just a few days before a more important match. Will Still, the Sang et Or’s new coach, spoke to beIN SPORTS about his side’s defeat:
Will Still: “When you come here to Paris you have to be very good”.
What do you remember about the game?
I think the conclusion is quite simple: we lost the match on a defensive throw-in that we didn’t defend well. I think in the first half we showed too much respect and gave them too much space to do what they wanted to do.
In the second half, the content was more interesting. In the end, it was a shame to take a goal from a defensive throw-in. The distances are a bit too great, it’s too easy to go the other way. When you come here to Paris, you have to be very good. We weren’t over the whole match. That’s what’s annoying today. You have to acknowledge the quality on the other side too.
Were you better when you were short-handed?
We’ve created quite a few situations for ourselves, but when you come here you have to get everything right. Everything you put in place has to succeed, so we’ll analyze what went wrong and move on from there.
“We needed more grinta and personality”.
Is the red card an important end to a match?
I’ve been told it can be given and I accept it. I think Marquinhos’ intervention was a bit too close to the mark too, but we won’t go into that again. I know there are times when I exaggerate and get a bit carried away, but tonight I wanted to remain very polite and I simply asked the referee for an explanation, but I wasn’t allowed one and he gave me a straight yellow.
Were you lacking aggression?
We needed more grit and personality in what we wanted to do, and we did that a little more in the second half. We’re going to analyze what there is to analyze and set off again tomorrow morning to prepare for the Nantes match next week.
