PSG faced some struggles but ultimately came out on top during a weekend sandwiched between two major European fixtures (significant ones for Paris, against Manchester City and FC Barcelona). It was a strong performance—one matched at the top of the table only by Olympique Lyonnais, who halted Nice’s positive momentum. As a result, the two clubs now sit in the top two positions, separated only by goal difference and goals scored in an incredibly tight league table.

Paris FC underscored their European ambitions in a wild, high-octane encounter against a Rennes side that may have been left drained by their own European commitments. The same could be said for Lille, who fell short against a typically stubborn Brest side, while AS Monaco suffered a defeat away to Lorient—a notoriously difficult fixture.

Lens, another side competing in Europe, also managed a win in Ligue 1; they are climbing the table and could well get their season back on track if they can string more results together. That said, tougher challenges lie ahead than Troyes, who have just slumped to their fifth consecutive defeat. The situation is similar for Olympique de Marseille: while their victory over Angers offers some breathing room, they shouldn’t get too carried away. Near the bottom of the table, Le Mans needs an urgent response after falling victim to a resurgent, clinical Toulouse side. Meanwhile, Auxerre managed to pull away from the relegation zone by deepening Le Havre’s woes. It is still only the beginning of the season, however—and things can change very quickly.
