Paris Saint-Germain won 1-4 against Montpellier this Saturday at the Stade de la Mosson as part of the 33rd day of Ligue 1 2024-2025. After the match, Paris coach Luis Enrique spoke at a press conference.
Enrique “I’m very happy with the team’s performance”.
What do you remember about this victory?
“In the end, these are strange matches because neither Montpellier nor we had anything special to play for. But I think this match above all serves to demonstrate that every minute played in a PSG shirt is important.
It’s also a useful match for the young players who have been lined up and who can perform well. The first half was difficult for us because our opponents were fresher, but we were much better in the second half. I’m very happy with the team’s performance”.
What do you think of Gonçalo Ramos’ hat-trick performance?
“A hat trick is wonderful. I really like Gonçalo Ramos, who performs at a very high level. Whether he’s playing a minute or more, or not at all, he’s always at his best, always ready to help the team. That’s a guarantee for us, the club and the team.”
Enrique “I’m very happy with his performance and what he’s achieving on the pitch.”
Last season Senny Mayulu was close to leaving the club, today he seems perfectly integrated, what do you think of his season?
“I like him a lot. I’m delighted he’s staying. It’s difficult to be a starter at PSG, especially in this PSG, but Senny brings together several qualities that allow him to be in this team. He’s important for the future of the club. Whether for his technical or physical qualities, or his versatility, he’s a player we tested as a full-back (this Saturday) and he can play very well in that position.
Senny is an undeniably good player, very strong and always ready. He has a very strong character, a very strong personality to perform. Always ready to play and train at the highest level. He plays less than he’d like, obviously, but I’m very happy with his performance and what he achieves on the pitch.”
Enrique “It implies and demands the same high standards”.
Do you feel more pressure at PSG than at Barcelona to win the Champions League?
“No, the truth is no. The event implies an accumulated tension that has to be managed, and that’s true regardless of the team. A final involves different circumstances around the match. Finals are polymorphous and can change their face at any moment. But there’s no difference between the two clubs, and the pressure has to be managed. This implies and demands the same high standards. And in the end, there will be one winner and one loser.”
Will you be rotating your squad next week against Auxerre, to give other players more playing time?
“You’ll see. It’s obvious that we have a well-established plan. There’s only one match a week left, but we’ve got two finals to manage, and our aim is to arrive in the best possible shape to achieve both. Rest is managed according to need, according to the players. But I’ll inform the players first.”
