This Friday at 9:05pm (CET), Paris Saint-Germain (1st) take on AS Monaco (3rd) Parc des Princes as part of Matchday 21 of Ligue 1 2024-2025. At a press conference, Monaco coach Adi Hütter spoke about the match and his side’s opponents.
Hütter “he’s a player with a lot of personality”
“What qualities convinced you about Moatasem Musrati, your latest midfield recruit?
First of all, he’s an experienced player. He’s international (Libyan, 42 caps, 2 goals), he’s played European matches. He may appear shy at press conferences, but he’s a player with a lot of personality on the pitch. Technically, he’s good, he knows how to find solutions, he can play both short and long, and he likes to help young players and support them. He’s good with his head and will help us with set-pieces. He’s the kind of player we were looking for, with his experience.
Hütter “They’re stronger than in December”
How could you possibly get the better of PSG, who beat you in the Champions Trophy on January 5 (0-1) and have gone from strength to strength in recent weeks?
At the moment, they’re one of the best teams in Europe. They’re stronger than in December. In Qatar, for the Champions Trophy, they were better than us, but with more success, we could have gone through on penalties. We know they’re very strong, but we can be competitive. If we put in a great performance, anything’s possible.
You said you hoped to see Wilfried Singo in the first leg against Benfica on Wednesday (9pm). Are you still optimistic?
Did I say that? Maybe I could have dreamt it (he smiles). Wilfried is going through his comeback process, but I don’t have high hopes for the first leg. Our aim is to bring him back as soon as possible. For the return leg (February 18), that would be great. But for the first leg, no.”
Monaco know they have to pick up points against PSG if they are to have any chance of playing a leading role in the second half of the season. PSG are undefeated in France this season, which means that every game now could see them fall. Monaco are already a long way from Paris, so this team from the principality will have to work hard, especially as there are only 14 games left. We can’t wait to watch a Champions League match with such intensity. There’s still a lot at stake in each competition, and Paris will have to be wary. The match will be at the Parc des Princes, and that changes almost everything for Paris.
Without Singo, with his new recruit, Luis Enrique can once again take the lead, as Monaco still have the same problems. On the other hand, the Parisians may one day be too soft on their performance, and on that day they must make no mistakes. PSG need to keep their wits about them and never look down on their opponents.
