Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco faced off this Sunday at Stadium 974 for the Trophée des Champions 2024. The match ended in a 1-0 Parisian victory (PSG/Monaco highlights). After the match, Monaco coach Adi Hütter spoke at a press conference. He made no secret of the fact that a last-gasp defeat was hard to take, but stressed that Paris “deserved” its title.
Hütter “I want to congratulate PSG on their title, even though we’re obviously very disappointed by the defeat.”
“When you lose a match in the final minutes, the overriding feeling is always disappointment. That’s how I feel, but when you look at the game as a whole, Paris Saint-Germain deserved to win. Even so, I’m happy with what we did tonight, because we fought right to the end to get through the penalty shoot-out.
We had a few chances, but we also conceded a lot to PSG, particularly from set-pieces where we weren’t well organized. I’d like to congratulate PSG on their title, even though we’re obviously very disappointed by the defeat.
As you can imagine, every player was sad in the dressing room after losing in the final moments, because it was a big blow to the back of the neck. Now we have to pick ourselves up and think about the next game against Nantes.”
It was a very classy reaction from the Monaco coach, who didn’t want to play down the disappointment for too long by admitting that PSG were superior. You have to admit that this Monaco team is gifted, and that they have some great things ahead of them.
PSG are just a little too strong this season, even after a 10-day vacation this winter (a fairly long break for a team at this level). Paris continues to be invincible in France and, above all, is beating the big boys one after the other.
