Former Paris Saint-Germain player Jérôme Rothen spoke out on his show, Rothen S’enflamme (RMC Sport), about the Paris club’s new stadium. He assures us that the departure from the Parc des Princes will soon become official, and puts forward three possibilities for consideration, one of which is the most promising.
Rothen “Some people have talked about Ris-Orangis, which is totally untrue”.
“Some sites have come out lately. Some people have talked about Ris-Orangis, but it’s totally false. There’s no stadium planned there. It’s all lies. On the other hand, the Massy site has been gaining weight in recent days. But there is the possibility of two other sites. They’re also making progress on the project.
Rothen “ Massy has a bit of a head start but the other two sites are not abandoned ”
Massy has a bit of a head start, but the other two sites have not been abandoned. One is not far from the Campus, near Poissy. As for the other, the name has already been announced: Montigny-le-Bretonneux. What is unofficial, but soon to be official, is that they will soon be leaving the Parc des Princes.
Rothen “Le Parc was my attachment to Paris”.
It hurts my heart. I was born three kilometers from the Parc des Princes. I went there at the age of 4. I was lucky enough to play there for six years with PSG. Today it’s a hindrance to the development of all fans. The Parc was my attachment to Paris.“
It’s news that won’t delight everyone, but Nasser Al-Khelaïfi had already said that PSG would be leaving the Parc des Princes. We’re just waiting for confirmation of where the Parisian club will be based for the next few years.
The official announcement of a new venue will also allow us to start planning for the future. Transport to get there, the size of the stadium, what concepts to associate with it. Above all, we’ll have visuals and an identity to find. For the time being, the threat of a departure cannot be confirmed, as there is still hope of a change of heart from the mayor’s office.
It has to be said, though, that building a huge complex – stadium plus ancillary facilities – will take years. So if the departure from the Parc des Princes is decided, it won’t happen in three days. There will be time to prepare the transition.
