Here’s our saga. The 5 good reasons to follow a match (with some adaptations). We’ll take a look at what’s attractive before each match, with a mix of seriousness and humor. Mind you, this is by no means an exhaustive tour of the subject. We continue here with the match between Paris Saint-Germain (2nd) and Strasbourg (7th) this Saturday at the Parc des Princes, as part of Matchday 8 of Ligue 1 2024-2025 ( kick-off 9pm in France).
5. PSG’s comeback after the break
Two weeks is a long time to be following a club. Especially since international breaks are not very exciting. PSG have struggled in recent weeks, and we can’t wait to see how the players fare again.
4. Back to the Parc des Princes
PSG have shown that they are less dominant away from home. There are limits to what Luis Enrique demands. But at the Parc des Princes, it’s a different story – the stadium, the atmosphere, the landmarks – it’ll be a good match for Paris, who must do all they can to put the pressure on Ligue 1 leaders Monaco.
3. Strasbourg, a fine team
Strasbourg has changed everything over the last few years, and now there’s the Chelsea connection, with its revised ambitions. We’ve seen at the start of the season that Strasbourg scores goals, but concedes quite a few. It’s a style of soccer that doesn’t close down the game, and that could be a godsend for Paris and its arrows.
2. The enigmatic line-up
Whatever happens with Luis Enrique, we’re likely to be surprised by the choices he makes. For good or ill, that’s not the question. Who will occupy the position of 9, false 9? There are several choices. Who will play in the middle? Here again, the choices will be clear before a Champions League match next week.
Who will be goalkeeper? Donnarumma? Or is Luis Enrique gradually preparing Safonov or Tenas to step up? The match against Strasbourg will provide some clues, not least the presence or absence of Randal Kolo Muani at kick-off.
1. A spectacle to come
PSG score a lot of goals, especially at the Parc des Princes, Strasbourg don’t close down the game and the Parisian stadium loves wild parties. Barcola will want to show his worth, Dembélé, average with the French national team, will be able to show the extent of his talent, and of course João Neves, the summer recruit along with Willian Pacho, will have his heart set on a great match, as always.
PSG is an attractive team, but it hasn’t been attractive for a few games now, and this match against Strasbourg is a good opportunity to turn things around.
