Paris Saint-Germain lost 2-1 to Strasbourg (video Highlights Strasbourg/PSG) this Saturday at the Stade de la Meinau as part of the 32nd day of Ligue 1 2024-2025. After the match, Paris coach Luis Enrique spoke at a press conference.
Enrique: “We arrived with a top-class team”.
Should we be worried about PSG after this defeat?
“I’d like to say that I’m very satisfied with my team, with the way they played. We had a very strong rival playing for Champions League places. They’re strong physically and technically, with a lot of very young players.
We came up with a very high-caliber team, with four youngsters from the academy. As I said, I’m delighted with their performance at the high level of Ligue 1. Now we need to get into that immersion phase.”
Do you feel that you are well prepared for this match?
“Yes, all the objectives I had in mind came to fruition, with the exception of the result of the match.”
Enrique “We were close to a draw”.
Are you now less focused on results in Ligue 1 and a little more on lessons learned on the pitch?
“I’m not going to dwell too much on what’s just been done. The objectives I had in mind have been achieved, I repeat, all the objectives I had in mind have been achieved and before this return match we have on Wednesday.
It would be ridiculous to make any more comments. We were close to a draw, we had the chances and we could have done it.”
Are you satisfied with Barcola’s performance?
“I’m not in the habit of singling out any particular player for praise, or giving a grade based on a goal or an action. I repeat that, in general, all the players put in a top-class performance, including Barcola.”
Enrique “Now we’ll see who benefits.”
Mikel Arteta in a different situation fielded nine of the eleven starting players in the first leg in the league, you fielded just one, what’s the best strategy?
“Everyone has their own way of managing their squad, everyone has a different calendar, a different situation. The situations around Arsenal and PSG are different. Everyone does what they think is best for their team, Mr Mikel Arteta has his way, Mr Luis Enrique has his.
I have nothing more to say on the subject. You have to adjust according to the calendar, the matches we have. When we had to play, they could rest and vice versa. Now we’ll see who benefits.”
Have you heard from Lee, out with injury?
“He took a blow to the shin. It doesn’t seem serious to me.”
