Paris Saint-Germain hosted AS Monaco at their home ground, the Parc des Princes, this Friday evening for Matchday 3 of Ligue 1. In their first home game of the season, the Rouge et Bleu dominated early on and quickly opened the scoring. Unfortunately, a more sluggish second half—marred by a lack of precision in the final third—allowed the Monegasques to equalize and eventually secure a 2-1 victory. Denis Zakaria, ASM midfielder and captain, discussed the match with Ligue 1 Plus.
Denis Zakaria: “We knew that against this PSG side, there was a chance to achieve something.”
Tell us how the match unfolded.
In the first half, we spent a lot of time chasing the ball, but in the second half, we managed to turn the game around. We knew that against this PSG side, there was a chance to achieve something. We’re happy to have turned the match around and taken the three points tonight.
How did you motivate Camara (who was expected to leave)? You could really feel he was locked in tonight.
Yes, clearly there’s a bit of frustration for him. But above all, he’s a professional who plays for the team; we were able to talk to him and tell him that if he kept performing like this, other—and better—offers would come his way. He’s moved past that now and is focused on Monaco.
