Achraf Hakimi, the 27-year-old Paris Saint-Germain right-sided wing-back, spoke to CBS Sports Golazo following a 4-2 victory over Manchester City this Wednesday at the Etihad Stadium, as part of the second matchday of the 2026-2027 Champions League league phase.
Hakimi: “We want to achieve something special once again.”
What do you think this result—and your first-half performance—says to the rest of the world?
We are very happy with the performance and the three points. We know that people often question us, but we relish playing in matches like these; we are ready, and we’ve shown that this is our competition.
Is that the feeling within the squad—that this is “your” competition?
We know these are special nights, and we want to showcase our qualities. We want to achieve something special once again. We’ll take it one step at a time, with our sights set on the final.
PSG isn’t typically known for shining early in the season, are they?
It’s still early days. Today was a tough challenge against one of the best teams around—a side that hadn’t lost a match until now. We’re happy, but we must keep going. Next week, we have another big match against a strong opponent.
Hakimi: “The most important thing is winning trophies as a team.”
Could the Ballon d’Or end up at PSG again?
I certainly hope so; we’d love for one of our own to win it so we can celebrate with the fans.
What would it mean to you to win it?
It’s a special award—everyone wants to win it—but even if I don’t, I’m just happy to have been nominated. The most important thing is winning trophies as a team. As for the rest, we’ll see. I’m just glad to be among those selected.
