Here’s our saga. The 5 good reasons to follow a match (with some adaptations). We’ll take a look at what’s attractive before each match, with a mix of seriousness and humor. Mind you, this is not an exhaustive tour of the subject. We continue here with the match between Paris Saint-Germain (1st in Ligue 1) and Le Mans (6th in National) this Tuesday at the Stade Marie-Marvingt, as part of the 8es de finale of the Coupe de France 2024-2025 (kick-off 9.10pm, CET).
5 – An unusual opponent.
Although Le Mans spent several seasons in Ligue 1, we haven’t seen them recently, and there’s nothing to say that the next match against PSG is any time soon. It’s a chance to get away from the routine, to see other players and perhaps a different approach from the coach, which could be interesting. A bit of change is at least refreshing.
4 – Kimpembe back?
The 29-year-old central defender hasn’t played professionally for 2 years, but he’s been a regular fixture in the squad for several weeks now. This match against a National team could be an opportunity for him to get back into the competition. However, coach Luis Enrique has shown that he has no intention of giving anything away. We need the “right conditions”. Perhaps Paris needs to get a handle on things first, in order to limit the risk. Even so, there is a glimmer of hope for Titi, who is undoubtedly looking forward to the big moment.
3 – Youngsters?
It’s the Coupe de France, and we’ve seen that some key players are being rested and not called up to the squad. Others may have limited playing time. It’s perhaps an opportunity to see a bit more of the youngsters. We always appreciate these opportunities to discover them.
2 – Kvaratskhelia on the rise?
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, the 23-year-old striker, is the new recruit of the winter mercato. He needs to adapt to coach Luis Enrique’s game, his role and his team-mates. Although the team could be reshuffled today, we can imagine that he will get some game time. It’s a chance for him to show his worth, even though we’ve only seen a small part of his talent so far.
1 – A must-win match in a must-win competition.
It’s hard not to think about the Champions League, which returns next Tuesday, but tonight’s match, however modest the opponent, is of real importance. PSG are aiming for the French Cup title, and there’s no room for failure in the French Cup.
Several Ligue 1 teams have already paid the price, so it’s up to the Parisians to do what it takes to qualify. If possible, with style. But there’s bound to be a certain “magic” and tension in an elimination match. We love soccer for its spectacle and emotion.
